Crossout Game Review.

The game is a blend of Twisted Metal and Mad Max. It is a free vehicle-based action game that is played in a post-apocalyptic MMO world setting. Players in this game can choose random parts to build war machines capable of destroying other players’ customized vehicles. Crossout has both PvE and PvP game modes making it a fun game to play.

Crossout is developed by Targem Games and published by Gaijin Entertainment. It was introduced on 20th May 2015 and the first alpha test was done in the summer. The game later debuted at E3 and was available at Gamescom. On 30th May 2016 the game became available on PS4, PC, and Xbox One.

Overview.

Crossout takes place in a similar universe as Ex Machina’s. It happens 200 years before Ex Machina’s and 20 years after a disease almost wiped out earth civilizations. Crossout is the name of the cause of this pandemic which was an accidental experiment to create hybrid soldiers which were not to be activated until several centuries. The planet is now inhabited by a bunch of suicidal raving lunatics instead of the super soldiers.

A few decades after the Crossout some people want to bring back the world’s civilization while others prefer the status quo. It is not certain if the world will return but one thing for sure is an inevitable conflict.

Gameplay.

The controls are easy; you just aim your weapons at the enemies’ vehicle and blast them. The main idea is not staying in one place which makes you an easy target. You should constantly be on the move while targeting and blasting your enemies’ vehicles. You will have a huge arsenal of weapons to defeat your enemies like plasma cannons, bullets, rocket launchers, e.t.c.

Upon launching the game you will be instantly thrown into action with a rusted vehicle. You then have to go through the tutorial and choose the parts that you like for the combat vehicle of your choice. After that, you get basic parts at first but you will get better equipment to create new machines as you proceed. You will do missions at first but when you level up new game modes will be unlocked.

Game modes.

  • Missions

In this mode, players destroy each other. AI bots can be included if the players are not enough. Once you reach level 10 you can play Ranks against other players. If you win in missions you win parts like wheels or guns.

  • Raids

This is a PvE mode where you team up with other players for battles. There are many objectives since the games you play are constantly changed. Among the popular ones is Chase where you need to catch and eliminate a convoy and other enemies explosives.

  • Brawls

This is a major free mode and there are certain areas you can play. Halloween has a Witch Hunt mission which involves 8 cars grabbing balloons and stopping other players from getting them

  • Clans

You can play clan battles if you have been accepted in a certain clan. This involves four clan mates battling an enemy to death.

  • Ranked

You will find better players in this mode. They will target your best weapon and fuel tank. The save is that you will compete with players with the same vehicle tier which is calculated by the parts that you used to build your machine.

Conclusion.

Crossout is a free-to-play MMO action game but the microtransactions hold it back. You can be competitive without the ingame coins but it is difficult to compete with a person who has paid for beat gear. Free-to-play games with microtransactions are great but only if they are affordable. Despite this demerit. Crossout is a great game and building the war machines for online battles  is a fun experience. It is very satisfying to see your death car blow up enemies.

Pros.

  • Many customization options.
  • Incredible graphics: spectacular vehicle explosion and attractive maps to look at.
  • A fun way of building vehicles the way you want them.
  • Has a unique style and theme than other games.
  • Has active forums.
  • Free game to play.
  • Multiplatform play.

Cons

  • You need to spend money to advance your career.
  • Poor admin to player communication.
  • Takes a long time to grind components.
